In our Community:
The Dixie Beehives are a community based sports group. An important part of our commitment to excellence is our involvement in the community.
Over the course of the hockey season the Beehives will be out in the community at local events, festivals and social gatherings. We will also be giving back to the community by organizing fundraising events and donating time and funds to local charities wherever possible.
Events: From time to time the Beehives make appearances in the community in order to increase awareness and give the players an opportunity to get experience in meeting people.
In 2007 the players appeared at the Weston Farm market. This is a wonderful local market visited by many locals. the players had an opportunity to meet and great the local fans in the area, hand out some complimentary tickets and build some friendships in the area.
Later in the year the team participated in the Weston BIA Santa Claus parade. The players were decked out in their jerseys and were seen playing some ball hockey on their float and waiving to fans along the route.
Many thanks to Moore Transport for generously lending the team one of their flat be trucks for the day.
Charity Support:
The Toronto Dixie Beehives support local charities. Currently we are searhing for a deserving charity in the area that would like to work with us on some fund raising initiatives. PLease contact the beeline at 905-286-0943 if you would like to get involved.
Billets:
In order to accomplish our goal of being one of the leading junior A team in the country we must actively recruit and develop players from all over North America.
As a result we will have several players who are from out of town and therefore will require home billeting within the Weston Community.
Below is summary of the benefits and requirements of billeting one of our players.
Should you be interested in Billeting a player please contact our hotline at 905-286-0943
Benefits:
- $100.00/week remuneration
- Season Tickets to Beehive home games
- Discounts on Beehive memorabilia
- Advanced notice and discounts on Beehive community events
- An excellent way to set an example for young family members
- An opportunity to play a crucial role in the Beehive operation
Requirements:
For a player to leave home at such a young age, it is very important to have a safe, clean, comfortable homelike situation. Billets are carefully chosen by the team and must maintain these credentials.
- Provide a Police Report (fees to be paid for by the Beehives Hockey Club)
- Non-smoking house
- Provide transportation to players if teammates cannot pick them up
- Provide 3 balanced meals a day (Team Nutritionist is available to go over meal plans)
- Players are to have their own room if possible. In the event where a player has to share a room, it will be with another teammate and not any other household member.
Each billet family is carefully chosen and goes through a series of questions to be able to be a host family.
Here are some of the questions that interested billets have to go through.
- What kind of bedroom will the player have?
- What are the reasons you would like to billet a Beehive?
- What is the employment/economic status of the family?
- Is there any kind of hockey background?
- How far is the home away from the arena and school?
- How many children, if any, do the billets have?
- What is the marital status of the billet parents?
- Is there access to a computer with the Internet?
Each player will be carefully matched to best fit their situation. These are some of the questions that may apply for the player.
- Does the player have any allergies?
- Does the player want to be around any pets or children?
- Will the player have access to transportation if needed?
- Will the player prefer an older or younger family?
Our staff works hard to match each player with the proper matching billets.
Each player will get to meet and greet the host family before the player moves into the house. This ensures that both the player and billet and family members are comfortable with the living arrangements. This helps reduce the player's potential anxiety about moving into a new home, allowing them to focus on hockey.
