Beehives announce former Toronto Maple Leaf head of Player Development

The Dixie Beehives are pleased to announce the addition of Miroslav Frycer as their Head of Player Development.

Prior to playing in the NHL, Frycer played with HC Vitkovice, Czech Republic - 1st League when he was on the Czech Championship team in 1981. In that time, he also played 55 games with the Czech National Team from 1979 to 1981. In that 1979 to 1981 time, he played in the World Championships -Olympic Games where in 1979 his team was Vice Champion, 3rd place in 1981 and 5th place at Lake Placid in 1980.

Frycer then moved on to the NHL and played 11 seasons in the NHL beginning with the Quebec Nordiques in 1981-82 and 7 years with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Following his years with the Leafs, Frycer played his last two NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers.

Frycer currently sits at 37th in all time scoring with the Maple Leafs. He played 329 games, scored 115 goals and added 153 assists for 268 points. He also played 17 playoff games for the Leafs and contributed 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points. Frycer also played in the NHL for Quebec, Detroit and Edmonton for an additional 86 games, 32 goals, 30 assists and 62 points.

Miroslav Frycer has also spent considerable time in the coaching end of hockey in Europe. From 1994 to 2006 and 2007 to 2009, he was Head Coach with such teams as HC Havirov (4 years), EV Bruneck (2 years), HC Meran (3 years), SV Ritten (1 year); HC Vitkovice (1 year) and SG Crotina (1 year).

President Grant Furlane said: "The Beehives are committed to building a top notch organization and have demonstrated this with the additions of Mario Cicchillo (Executive Vice President and General Manager) and Frycer. Our first season was one of learning. With the addition of more qualified and experienced management and coaching personnel, we will see a new and improved product”
